Today we’re excited to premiere the brand new one from Tina Bartle, who’s sharing with us ‘Making The First Move’ - her first single in 3 years that marks an exciting new chapter for the singer-songwriter.
Wrapped in lo-fi indie-folk production, the song explores the nervousness and environment around the beginnings of a new relationship, and all the trials and tribulations that can come from friends and family, particularly around same-sex relationships. The Melbourne/Naarm performer plays this beautifully through the song’s lyrics, particularly looking closely at the chorus where we hear:
I know you like to make the first move, so why aren’t you making it now? Before flipping this around for the final chorus: I know you are afraid to make the first move, so why aren’t I making it now?
The questioning and confusion around these moments is put perfectly here and throughout the song. We’ve all found ourselves in those situations with ourselves, wondering if we should make the first move, but wondering if maybe there’s a reason they haven’t either. For some, this may be the excitement that comes with a new relationship, but for others we feel exactly what Tina Bartle is singing about - more discomforting about the unknown than excitement.
But what is exciting is the song itself as well as the artist. Tina Bartle made her way down to the music capital from Gippsland to study and pursue music, eventually finding her way into The Push’s 2020 mentoring program where she got to work alongside Jess Locke to develop her craft.
And the work and passion Tina puts into her music shows, and a song like this is I’m sure just a taste of the special things to come. And today we’re lucky enough to show it all to you first. Enjoy!
‘Making The First Move’ is out everywhere you like on March 26th, from Robot Jaw Records.
